Tuberculosis is a highly contagious, infectious bacterial disease characterized by the growth of nodules (tubercles) in the tissues, especially the lungs. Some education programs and employers require a TB skin test (TST) upon entry/hire.
The test is done by injecting a small amount of purified protein derivative under the skin in the forearm. Two to three days later, the injection site is evaluated for a reaction. TB testing can be performed as a single step or a 2-step test. Two step tests require the serum to be administered in the opposite forearm no sooner than 7 days from the first. If your TB Skin test is positive, a chest x-ray or other tests may be required and are referred to Muskingum TB and Respiratory Clinic.
The Noble County Health Department offers TB skin testing daily, except on Thursdays due to the 2-3 day return for test reading. We can bill insurances for TB skin testing. We also have self-pay pricing available. Please call our office to schedule an appointment, walk-ins are also accepted.
